The European Respiratory Society (ERS) is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and colleague Professor Tobias Welte on 9 March 2024. Tobias was a true member of the ERS family – contributing to the Society from its inception in many important roles, including ERS President, ERS Monograph Chief Editor, and long-serving member of the European Respiratory Journal and European Respiratory Review editorial boards. He was a great man, he had a clear vision and he gave so very much to respiratory medicine. May he rest in peace.

About the ERS books

The ERS Monograph is the quarterly book series from the European Respiratory Society. Each Monograph covers a specific area of respiratory medicine, providing in-depth reviews that give clinicians at all levels a concise, comprehensive guide to symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.

The ERS Handbooks are compact guides to broad areas of the respiratory field. Launched in 2010, the series now covers adult, paediatric and sleep respiratory medicine, and a companion volume of self-assessment questions is available.
